Christmas Commission dates
Every year, without fail, I get messages in mid-November and early December. Someone has had a lightbulb moment, a bespoke piece as a Christmas gift, something personal and handmade and truly special. And every year it breaks my heart a little to have to say: we've run out of time. (unless of course you are happy to pay an express fee)
So this year I wanted to write it all down, properly, so you can plan ahead and we can actually make it happen.
How long does a commission actually take?
From the moment we finalise your design and your deposit clears, I need six to eight weeks at the bench. That's just the making. Every piece is handmade from scratch, just for you.
But here's the bit people often don't account for, that six to eight weeks doesn't include stone sourcing or our time discussing design. quoting etc. Before I can finalise a design, I need to find the right stone for your piece. The one with the right character, the right colour, the right soul. That search happens before the clock even starts on the making. Sometimes it's quick. Sometimes it takes a few weeks. It's part of what makes each piece so individual but it does mean the timeline is longer than people expect.
So when do you actually need to get in touch?
For Christmas 2026 (ad early January delivery), here are the dates:
Ideally have everything done and ready for me to begin making by 23rd October. This gives us a full eight weeks for making. This is the comfortable, unhurried version where we can do this properly.
Absolute latest deposit cleared by 6th November. This is the cut-off for completion by 18th December. If you're reading this after that date, we'll can have to talk about what's possible, but I can't make any promises.
If stone sourcing is part of your journey, which it is for most commissions, you need to be in touch now. Or as close to now as possible :). Art takes time.
What if you've already missed the window?
Don't panic. There maybe the express option, however this does come with an express fee.
Or, and I love this one, a gift voucher and consultation gift. You purchase a gift voucher, and book a commission consultation, wrap that up beautifully, and give the experience of the commission journey as the gift itself.
Ready to get started?
Book your consultation directly through the website and let's talk about what you're dreaming of. The sooner you get in touch, the more time we have to make something truly special together.
