This ring embodies my house design and draws deeply from the philosophy of wabi-sabi, embracing the beauty in imperfection, and is inspired by the timeless elegance of ancient Roman jewellery. Each element tells its own story, with the gold and diamonds accompanied by unique codes that trace their origins, ensuring absolute transparency.

I feel incredibly lucky that I’ve had so many years in remission and to be medication free. When I’m out of a flare, I truly feel well. But when a flare hits, it impacts every part of my life—physically, emotionally, mentally.

I spent the day creating an engagement ring, from start to almost finish, and even managed to get it in the post for hallmarking. There was something magical in the process—I found myself in a state of flow, almost meditative. This is exactly where I’m meant to be, making jewellery for you 🫶

Jewellery is, and always will be, my happy place. As I worked, I thought about the memories this ring will hold, the journey it will go on with its future owner. It filled me with such joy to imagine how it will become part of their story. This is why I began creating jewellery in the first place—for the sheer joy of it, and to share that joy with those who wear these pieces.

This year has brought its challenges, but one thing remains constant: my love for crafting pieces that are woven with meaning and filled with purpose.

Earlier this week, I drove home with the moon lighting my way. As it rose, I was struck by its size and brightness, and the emotions I had been holding onto all day flooded to the surface. It felt as though the moon was offering comfort, reminding me that even in times of sadness, there’s a profound connection to the world around us—and beauty in the cycles we move through.

This Harvest Moon feels like a symbol of that connection—a reminder of life’s ebb and flow, where even in loss, there is growth and renewal.

As a jeweller, one of the more unexpected sides of my work is how closely it’s tied to death. I often find myself creating pieces that hold deep connections to those who have passed—remodelling heirlooms from loved ones, or crafting memorial jewellery with ashes, hair, (and once a loved ones tooth) as a way to honour their memory.

This isn’t something new. Memorial jewellery has long been a way to remember and celebrate life, with examples date back to Roman times.

Maybe it’s why I’ve thought a lot about death myself. I’m grateful that I’m not afraid of it. Of course, like most people, I hope for a peaceful passing when my time comes, and a beautiful long journey filled life (I believe I’ll be here until I’m 88) and I’ve started to think about how I can prepare for that as much as possible. One way is through the incredible work of death doulas.

I believe that one of the kindest things we can do—for ourselves and our loved ones—is to allow death to happen with dignity. While euthanasia isn’t legal here in the UK at the moment, I hope that one day we have the option to offer dignified deaths to those we love, just as we would want for ourselves. Until then, I want to share more about the vital role death doulas play. They don’t assist with ending life, they provide emotional and practical support, helping people navigate those difficult final stages with grace and compassion.

They’re truly remarkable people, and I want to help spread the word about the invaluable work and support they offer.

Let’s dive into a topic close to my heart- gold. Personally, I’ve always been drawn to the richness of yellow gold. It’s not just about the look; for me, yellow gold embodies the true essence of gold, deeply resonating with my craft and philosophy. In contrast, white gold achieves its color by mixing gold with other alloys, much like rose gold does.

This gave white gold the appearance of platinum without the platinum price tag. But there’s a catch: rhodium plating wears off, requiring frequent replating, otherwise your jewellery can appear dirty or discolored over time (customer descriptions). As someone who values authenticity in craftsmanship, rhodium plating always felt a bit misleading to me.

Fortunately, advancements in alloying techniques now allow us to create white gold with a higher palladium content, which eliminates the need for rhodium plating. This not only reduces maintenance but also preserves the longevity. Yet, many jewellers still rely on rhodium plating, which can be deceiving for customers who aren’t fully informed about the maintenance it requires.

While white gold can beautifully complement lighter stones, my heart is firmly with yellow gold. Its warmth and vibrancy bring out the best in gemstones in a way that white metal simply can’t, at least for me. That said, I do currently still take on commissions in white gold when requested, however this will be changing in 2025... As for rose gold, due to its unique challenges, it’s a metal I tend to avoid working with.
